Ann Hartley creates dynamic, wearable drawings. Like calligraphy or expressionist painting, her jewelry practice challenges and expands her interests in line and craftsmanship. Her collection features works crafted exclusively from 18 karat gold and Argentium sterling silver. Each piece is fabricated by hand in her studio using vintage tools purchased by her husband Ben, an accomplished painter. Among these tools is an antique hammer that Ann uses to impart each piece with a distinctive texture and history. The collection includes works with found objects, semi precious stones, wood, steel and enamel. Elements frequently break symmetry in her work, creating whimsical, idiosyncratic compositions. Ann holds an MFA in Metalsmithing & Jewelry Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BFA in Printmaking from Baylor University. She has shown her work in select boutiques throughout the country as well as numerous solo and group exhibitions |
